When we’re fearful about the future, our minds often default to conjuring up worst case scenarios.
This is a time when we need to have faith.
To some, faith feels frivolous, or misguided. How can you have faith in something you can’t even see? But that is what faith is: belief and trust that things will unfold organically and perfectly in divine timing, for the highest good for all. That there is a greater force at work. That things will be OK or even better than OK.
Faith requires that we believe this, even when our physical senses are not yet showing us that our faith is justified. Sometimes faith is required despite circumstances that seem to be showing us that our faith isn’t justified.
We often forget that there’s a universal intelligence at work, all around us.
The same universal intelligence guides flowers to unfurl in the sunlight, a seed to become a plant, a shrub, or even a majestic tree.
This same force brings people together in the right time in place to meet and create together. This force has so much power behind it that a tender shoot can push through solid concrete and grow into a strong, robust plant.
During times of darkness and uncertainty, when things appear to be at a standstill, or you don’t know where to turn, know that this force is still at work. Think of the fields that lie fallow… while it appears that nothing is happening on the surface, below the surface there is dynamic energy at work, regenerating and replenishing the land so that it can come back with greater abundance than before.
It might feel incredibly hard to trust during those quiet moments of in-between.
There’s a part of us that wants to take action when we’re feeling fearful about the future. We want to do something, anything, rather than feeling stuck, helpless, and afraid. (Here’s a list of 50+ Things You Can Do Instead of Worrying).
And yet, these times of stillness are part of the cycle of life. In fact, they are vital to its health and longevity. All living things require moments of stillness in order to regenerate, recalibrate and rebuild. They use this time to fortify and maintain full power.
If you are in a place of not knowing and feeling fearful, can you remind yourself that life is moving through you in the same way as it moves through that field? It’s OK for you to not know right now. It’s OK for you to rest.
Let yourself rest.
Remind yourself to relax and trust.Treat yourself with the same loving care you would a tender new plant, or a newborn child. This is a time for deep self care.
For in doing so, you are nourishing the very fibers of your soul, which desperately need this time to be just as it is.
It’s only when we are truly relaxed that we’re able to access our highest wisdom, that part of us that knows exactly what to do next and when to do it. If you’re feeling fearful about the future, you can’t hear it, because the voice of fear overpowers it. We must take time to be quiet in order to hear it.
In the meantime, go back to the basics and appreciate the simple pleasures that surround us every day.
The healing magic of a sunrise, the mystical glimmer of the moon, the tastes and textures of ripe fruit and other nourishing foods we feed our body. The warm gooey feeling you have after a long walk.
Know that you are held, that forces are at work for your highest good even now.
You’ll be guided forward each step of the way. Relax and trust. It will be OK. It will be BETTER than OK.
